Over the River and Through the Woods
Merry Christmas!
It's the most wonderful time of the year! And one of my favorite things to photograph during the holiday season is Christmas decor details. If you've ever visited my grandparents house, you already know that their gorgeous homestead is a wonderful place to find beautiful decor. I mean, just look at their home! The Christmas decorations you will see in this blog post are all hand decorated by my grandparents themselves...and honestly it hasn't changed since my childhood! They graciously let me run rampant around the yard and living room capturing everything. Let's take a closer look outside :)
Country, rustic details can be found everywhere. The closer you look, the more details you'll see! This by itself could be its own postcard.
And the gorgeous wreath that's on their porch. Anyone recognize the vintage snowshoes?
This is the view from the back! Ps. I took these during the giant Christmas storm of '17. At this point, there was already 6 inches of accumulation on top of what we already had. The perfect snowglobe!
Leftover crabapples are even photogenic. I couldn't get enough of those colors!
I even caught Pepere outside during the storm with his trusty Kubota. He had a great photo idea (see below)!
Can you say Kubota calendar man? Yes I will be sending this in to them :)
Their chickens even had some fun in the snow.
Who doesn't love a Christmas village shining through a window? Let's go inside to take a closer look.
Honestly, this was one of my favorite Christmas pastimes as a kid. I was always super gentle with the village and it's elves since it's all ceramic. My imagination ran wild, and it kept me entertained for hours on end.
I catch myself daydreaming into it often. It's just perfect.
Now don't think I was forgetting about the Christmas tree! This photo just doesn't do this room justice. It's warm, tranquil, and the best place to do some reminiscing. I could go on for hours about its serenity. But back to the Christmas details, just take a look at the ornaments. I can recognize several that were hanging when I was a child. My grandmother always hides this gorgeous angel icicle ornament for my cousins and I to find. Someday I'll write a post just about that tradition.
Oh, and the mantle!
My grandfather built this all by hand. As I was writing this blog post, he was sharing so many incredible stories about the rocks that hold this all together. The most important wisdom he shared was that these intricate details are hard work, but if you put in the effort, it can enjoyed for years to come. I feel as though this has implications for so many things in life. Work hard, and enjoy what you've worked for. I'm extremely lucky to be able to hear these stories from them.
I'm not even sure there are words to describe this photo. Just look at the details!
I hope you all enjoyed this look at their fabulous home. They have been so kind to allow me to share these photos with you; again, a huge thank you to them, and please share your love on her Facebook page. I am so looking forward to spending Christmas Eve here! Stay tuned for our Christmas Eve shenanigans where we start a few new traditions!
Love,
Shannon
