Meghan-2020

"She wasn't doing a thing

that I could see, except

standing there leaning on

the balcony rail,

holding the universe together".

-J.D Salinger

Dear Reader,

If you think back to your 16-year-old self, you probably don't remember going to school with a mask on, social distancing, or having to think about a pandemic at all. You're probably recollecting a time where you were deciding what to do after the Friday night game, and probably stressing most about getting your homework done. I can't imagine how this has altered the academic, extracurricular, and social lives of students this year. Just know we are all thinking of you.

What I loved most about taking photos with Meghan is that we didn't talk about this at all. The words pandemic or Coronavirus didn't even come up once. But the words adventure, climbing, exciting, and fun certainly did. I couldn't help but notice that for just an hour, we got to put aside the current affairs and have a moment of normalcy. Just capturing Meghan's radiant smile and her stunning eyes. We had ourselves a good-old-fashioned photoshoot.

We climbed rocks and ledges. We balanced our way through the river, slipping into the water and soaking our shoes. (My shoes). We sat on fallen trees and slid down ledgepack mountains. How wonderful it is to let your imagination run wild. It really was the stuff of daydreams.

I once read somewhere that imaginative children become resourceful and resilient adults. Meghan is one of these souls. Each time I see her, she becomes more of an adult, but never loses her youth. I adore this about her. It's a quality so rarely found.

If you think back to your 16-year-old self, you probably don't remember going to school with a mask on, social distancing, or having to think about a pandemic at all. But these kids have, every day. I have faith in them, in people like Meghan. They may not have the quintessential high school experience, but I know they will make the best of it. And I hope along the way, they stop and climb the ledgepack mountain, walk across the fallen tree, and maybe even slip into the river and soak their shoes. I hope they can always find their youth.

Please enjoy this selection of Meghan's gallery.

Much love,

Lady Frye
